Maria Santos
Maria Santos uses repousee and chase techniques to form pewter into photo frames, mirrors and small boxes. She uses a combination of different materials such as enamel and semi-precious stones to contrast with the pewter. No two pieces are exactly alike as no casting or pressing is involved. Each piece has been worked individually from her own designs.
Maria’s boxes are handcrafted from the root of the Thuya tree before being expertly French polishes to enhance the full character of this exquisite burr. Much of her inspiration comes from the natural world. The intrinsic flexibility of pewter allows her to capture her designs in every small detail.
