Jay Rubinstein
Jay Rubinstein designs and makes remarkable wooden mobiles. They are often inspired by poems, music or stories and take the form of birds, fish and insects. Many of them have ambiguous elements – a flame that is a feather; a bird that is part of a fish.
The mobiles are mainly created from veneers, giving them a strength and lightness that allows for some remarkable forms and sizes.
Jay Rubinstein studied at London College of Furniture in the 1980s before running a small furniture-making business. He has continued to develop his skills over the last 30+ years and is now based in Dumfries and Galloway.
