‘Roman Sword is not a Roman sword at all! It’s just what most people, who see the sculpture for the first time, say!
It is in fact nothing more than an iron fell fence post. What makes it special is that the day after storm Arwen was the first time it had seen the light of day for one hundred plus years. It was embedded in the root of a giant fallen oak tree and some of the tree had grown around it. The stone had become encrusted with the iron giving some amazing effects. It’s a survivor, very sculptural and full of character.’
