Sarah Cemmick studied environmental illustration at Sunderland University which started a love affair with Lino. Once graduated, with the help of the Prince’s Trust start up fund, she began printmaking full time.

Influenced by wildlife, be it fluffy, furry or feathered, Sarah has continued to explore a variety of themes from the hare, a particular favourite, Swaledale and Cumbrian Herdwick sheep to pedigree dogs.

The process begins with lots of drawings to create the design which is then transferred to the block. Using traditional techniques, designs are carved from each lino block, oil based ink is applied with a roller to the surface, paper placed on top, then run through a press under great pressure creating the final artwork. Some pieces are then tinted with watercolour to give added texture. She also uses beautiful Japanese tissue with gold and silver foil flecks which give a stunning effect to the printed images.

Works have been commissioned by the National Trust, Artists Cards Ltd and Holland & Holland, Mayfair, London, and can be seen at galleries throughout the UK.

Sarah now lives and works from her home ‘The Pink House’ in Cumbria alongside her artist husband David, two children, Rosie and Woody and her new muse, Bonzo the mini long haired dachshund.
