Julie Dumbarton
Julie Dumbarton has been a full time, professional artist for over 30 years. She studied Fine Art at Loughborough University where there was a focus on technique and traditional artist skills. Julie was selected as the winner of the Astra Charnwood purchase prize during her graduation show.
Julie describes herself as a true colourist, creating images by building up layers of paint she creates herself from pigment. This gives her paintings amazing texture and a stunning depth of colour. She paints landscapes that are both real and imaginary. Her inspiration comes from the stunning Lake District, Scottish Highlands and many other beautiful parts of the world she has visited. Colour plays the main role in what she creates.
Julie’s paintings mainly represent elements of landscapes and scenery seen, loved and remembered, which are then combined to make one beautiful image. They are places she wishes existed, so she could sit and simply enjoy the view!
Julie recently returned to Cumbria having lived in Scotland for 20 years. She won numerous awards in that time including Dumfries & Galloway Life Visual Artist of the Year. Julie now lives in an old farmhouse and paints in her purpose built studio. She spends her days painting and gardening, planting trees and wildflower meadows that are a constant reference source for future work.
