Syl Macro
Syl Macro creates her beautiful ceramic panels and vessels in her studio in Alston, North Pennines. The constant factor in Syl’s work is the inspiration of pattern and texture in landscape. Her college training in dual disciplines, ceramics and illustration, lead to her fascination for the use of imagery in ceramics.
Syl sketches and photograps first, before getting involved in a sequence of making derived from these observations. Her inspirations are the changing moods and textures of the fells, woods and moorland of the North Pennines. Syl creates her ceramic landscapes from clay which has previously been coloured, textured and patterned in a variety of ways. She uses many techniques such as impressing, marbling, and printing with coloured slips and ceramic stains to create atmospheric landscape effects.
